Revisiting Wheaton
In the spring of 2002, I knew God wanted me to get better equipped for overseas service. I visited Wheaton College that spring, but thought, in my head(not my heart or spirit), that I should pursue a "secular" education. It would look good on a resume, you know, and that may open up more job opportunities for me somewhere.
Over the coming 6-9 months, I gained a clearer sense of God's prodding to get further education to use on mission with Him. After my own sort of "wrestling" with God about my future, I knew, without a doubt, that He wanted me to only consider Wheaton College, about one hour west of my then-home in Chicago.
Attending Wheaton College required a number of adjustments in my life, but am I glad I went there! I felt my own character and perspective grew more than at any time except perhaps for my stint in Thailand. Also, I met some wonderful friends and had fantastic mentors there.
Gana and I boarded a train on July 30 for Chicago, and Rob Welch, one of my Wheaton pals who is now a full-time evangelist, picked us up at Union Station. We were able to spend the night at his place, and he even treated us out to a great breakfast the next morning. Before saying "Goodbye," we spent some time in Rob's office.

Once we arrived at the college, Gana and I took a few pics there. Isn't Wheaton a great place?

After having some fun outside, Gana and I met Dr. Scott Moreau and Dr. Cheri Pierson, two of my professors, for lunch. I originally didn't think I would see Dr. Moreau that day, but he took some time out of his busy schedule to give Gana and I a warm Wheaton welcome. This was quite meaningful to both of us.
Dr. Pierson is still one of the most down-to-earth people you can meet. She updated us on a number of my former classmates, heard my perspective on life in Korea, and really helped to make Gana feel at home.

After hanging out with the profs, I tried to find some friends who serve on the staff at the Wheaton Graduate School. Several were on vacation, but we were blessed to see fellow "Urbana alumni" Julie Huebner and Jon Barger there.
"Jolly" Julie Huebner heads the recruitment staff in the graduate school. I was pleasantly surprised to see two photos of Gana and myself on her wall, and greatly appreciate her prayers for us. As usual, Julie was full of humor(and political commentary), something which helped to build a natural connection with my lovely wife.

Jon Barger, like myself, has had a long-term interest in things of a Thai nature. It was great to catch up with Jon re: his own thoughts about the future. Hope to see you again buddy!
