Old Friends, New Stories

It's always a joy to see old friends at Union University and the adjoining area. Below are some the pics taken during our Jan. 14-17 trip there.

Dr. George Guthrie is a wonderful mentor and an outstanding lecturer. I took his "Studies in Acts" class back in 1993, and recently found his Hebrews notes in the NLT Study Bible to be most insightful. His pastoral heart is greatly appreciated.

It was great to finally take Gana to my alma mater, one of the best Christian universities in the whole world.

Dr. Terry Lindley, one of the most humorous professors I've ever studied under, is a guy you can chat with about rock music, the current political scene, and many other things.

Dr. Carls had Gana and I rolling with his constant jokes throughout our tea time. We didn't plan on it, but his wife, Dr. Alice-Catherine Carls (University of Tennessee-Martin), was able to join us too.

Dr. Stephen Carls was probably my best professor friend at Union University. He's an expert in French history, and continues to be an avid researcher these days.

Oliver Dossmann was my first real friend at Union University. It was great to hang out with him and his wife Rachel for a couple of days.

Since last visiting Jackson, Oliver and Rachel have had three children(Zachary, Alexander, Leianna). After church, the two boys weren't really in the mood for this photo.

Marc Lockett attended Lone Oak High School with me. We haven't seen each other since at least 1991. It was great to catch up with him, and, through chatting, to learn how some mutual friends are doing.

Gana and I stayed at the Baymont Inn for a couple of nights while in Jackson. It was fun to go swimming again and also spend some time in the hot tub behind us.

Jackson has a number of restaurants not available in Paducah. This photo was taken inside of an excellent Japanese one.
