An Evening with Philip Yancey

Philip Yancey has been perhaps my favorite contemporary Christian writer since 1997. It was in that year that I first read The Jesus I Never Knew , a book that revolutionized how I viewed my Lord and Savior. It also challenged my own thinking in regards to how I relate to other people. Since that time, I've been further blessed by What's So Amazing About Grace, Prayer, and numerous other insightful works by this author.

Last night, I finally got to see Philip Yancey in person at Onnuri Church in Seoul. He shared some inspirational words for missionaries as well as some prescient insights into Christian maturity. As Yancey has said, each of us is a pilgrim in this life. We all will experience some heartache and disappointment, and may even be tempted to dismiss the idea of God altogether. In spite of the tough times and unanswered questions, though, a gracious, compassionate God is always waiting for us, eager to welcome us back into his loving arms.
