10 Years

I've been reflecting lately on how it's been ten years since I first served overseas. I still remember some peers meeting me on May 6, 1997, at the Don Muang Airport in Bangkok. The weather was so hot, and I almost passed out on one occasion during my first month there. However, over time, my body adjusted to the high levels of heat and humidity.
I don't think it's healthy to glorify the past or dwell too much on past accomplishments. I can say, though, that God grew me greatly during my two years in Bangkok. Due to culture shock, various health ailments, and other issues, I learned to depend on Him more than I ever had before. I also saw God use me in a variety of ways, including the English Bible studies that helped to introduce some of my students to Jesus.
The house that's pictured at the top is where I lived from August 1997 to my departure in May 1999. Ryan Engelland, here in a recent pic with his baby Madeline, was my roommate during that period. I learned a lot about the Christian walk from this guy, and will forever be grateful for his friendship. Also, P'Pie, whom you see with Gana and I in the bottom photo, brought much humor to our home as she tended to various housecleaning duties.
