Engagement Day

August 9, 2006, is a day I will never forget. "Why?" you may ask. Well, that is the day I got ENGAGED.
The activities started late that morning, when I met with Gana's extended family for a couple of hours. (In Mongolian culture, this is a time in which a lady's family gets better acquainted with the prospective suitor. I had only met Gana's grandmother and youngest brother previously, so this was a very big step for me!) As we talked, some nice food was served. When our initial discussion time had ended, Gana's family told me to go find her. I thought this would prove quite challenging, but, thanks to one of Gana’s brothers, it was easy (She was just next door).
After Gana joined the ceremony, we had some additional time with her family. Gifts were given, additional snacks were enjoyed, and some photos were taken (see the second pic above). I must say that I really felt like a member of the family by the time I left Gana's home.
Following the above activities, I had some individual time with Gana. It was at that point that I proposed to her American-style. Gana said "Yes," and is now wearing the ring you see in the top photo.
Later that day, we had some additional time with Odno, who translated during the ceremony, and her husband Tuvshin, who represented Gana's church. Odno and Tuvshin are a really fun, Christ-centered couple, and I'm grateful to know both of them. Also, I must give these two credit for things going so well earlier in the day.
Gana and I plan to get married December 20 here in Pohang, South Korea. Your prayers for our preparation time over the next four months are most appreciated.
